SPEARFISHING TEAM
JULIAN CRUZ In the 35 years that Julian has been spearfishing, some of his fondest memories go back to when he first started diving in Cuba. Beaches like “Patricio Lumumba” and “La Concha” in the early years. When he became a commercial spearo he covered the whole west of La Habana, from Cojimar to Bacunayagua. For Julian, love for the water runs in the family. His father would always take him on fishing trips and his mom (Who at the time worked for the Resource Database for Cuban Fishery Research) would take her son on most of her Research Trips. Julian has participated in 11 National Championships and made the Top 10 best US spearos in 2008.

TONY MIRANDA In the 45 years Tony has been spearfishing, very little has kept him out of the water. Not a charging bull shark. Not the Cuban government. Not a giant amorous sea turtle. An errant boat propeller that nearly sliced his foot off side-lined him for a while, but a year later he was back in the water, hunting. Tony has made the US Spearfishing Team twice in his career, competing in the World Championship in ’92 Mallorca & ’95 Venezuela. He achieved the highest individual score in the US Team in both World Championships.
